How to do Basic Uke

All the Uke concepts below are as responses to ideal attacks. i.e., where the opponent would be striking/cutting along the shortest line between you and him/her.

{The concept of profile(半身) refers to an "ideal line". A single approach of an attack/defence where you move along the narrowest width thus minimising exposed target areas, and maximising structural strength.}

---Uke nagashi---

Your Uke will come in, in a way where the angle between the Uke and the attack decreases along this line. As a result, when you get to the line, the attack will have to slide off the ideal line(because you are using "triangle method" to steal the line,) and your Uke will be the only one on the ideal line. When the Uke's movement has finished you should be structurally strong.

---Uke Harai---

Your Uke pushes out the attack from the line by having the contact with the attack from a 90 degree angle. When the Uke movement has finished you should be structurally strong.

--Uke Tome---

Your Uke will come into the same line ASAP. The moment the two collide, the Uke should be structurally stronger so that the attack (which is still on the line) means nothing to you.
