Satoko makes maccha  (Japanese green tea) next to Kazuko. Maccha is green tea powder whereas just "green tea" refers to sencha   (filtered green tea). The rule for preparing and serving maccha are extremely complicated and called "sado" or "cha no yu". This was developed by Rikyo in the 16th century.

First, a very small amout of maccha powder is put into a tea bowl. Then hot water is poured over it, and the tea is stirred with a tea whisk (chasen). This is only a basic of the serving and there are many other ways depending on who developed further.
