Not often in a lifetime do you get to meet people that can truly touch you not only as a human being but spiritually and mentally. I myself have been very, very lucky in this. I met a person that has some of the best qualities you could wish to see in a person and few of the bad ones. That person is my friend and buyu Ryo Onishi.

I met Ryo a long time ago in a local Dojo where I practise Soke Hatsumi's Bujinkan System. When I first saw him I thought he was a shihan from Japan that had come to visit, lol. (He has that kind of presence!)

I laugh now looking back. We soon became strong buyu and since then have enjoyed years of great training together. Times change and people move on, that's only natural but Ryo has always been around, in one way or another. He's always there for everyone else and asks for nothing in return. I always look forward to the times when I go down to London to train and see him. He's one of the most genuine, sincere, thoughtful and honest persons I have ever had the pleasure of meeting and getting to know. I could go on but I won't I think you can get the idea. When you look at Ryo as a persona and a martial artist you see qualities in him that you yourself wish you had, I know I do. I see him as the brother I never had, yes he's Japanese ( We can't all be perfect, lol) but he's able to flawlessly blend traditional eastern wisdom and traits alongside contemporary western ideology and lifestyles. He speaks more eloquent English than I do, and probably writes it better too. And has a impeccable eye for cool cloths, cars, gadgets and things.

Regarding his Budo Taijyutsu skills, well.. what can I say he's great! The focus and commitment he has for Sensei's budo is astounding, a totally focused guy to train with. Fantastic! Anyone fortunate enough to be able to train with him should do, being native to Japan he already understands most of what Snesei says and thus is able to grasp the intricate descriptions of Sensei's budo more than most of us. To watch Ryo train and I mean really train is refreshing, and to see the love this guy has for a art that almost faded away. He has a great mix or blend of understanding, ability and enthusiasm for the Bujinkan ryus.

Ryo currently trains in London with Shihan Peter King 14th dan(highly recommended). Do yourself a favour go and train with them both.
