MARTIAL ARTS DEVELOPMENT COMMISSION
INSURANCE COVER
It must be noted that the MADEC insurances are issued subject to the policy terms, conditions and exclusions and are valid only within a Martial Arts environment, i.e. club, dojo, tournament, or organised event. MADEC membership requirements and the recommended Safety Guidelines should always be observed.
The standard MADEC insurance issued as part of the licence fee:
The cover included within the licence protects each member for:
a. Personal accident whilst practicing martial arts, in either training or in competition, tournaments ac.
b. Member to member cover insures against one member claiming against the other.
c. Third party liability protects the insured should he/she be involved in a claim from someone other than another member whilst within the martial arts environment.
d. Capital benefit/loss of limb(s), eye(s) etc., provides for lump sum payments.
Special Schemes:
PUBLIC LIABILITY - ASSOCIATION:
Covers those areas that are not covered by the MADEC licence insurance, in situations sum as inter-member events, tournaments etc., where perhaps several groups come together for competition. Demonstrating at local fetes etc. Perhaps involving accidental damage to property, non-
martial artists, spectators, visitors etc., etc.
An Association is either:
I. A Full, Associate or Corporate member of MADEC, including provisional members.
2. A group of clubs in direct membership of a MADEC member Association which operates a federal structure.
PUBLIC LIABILITY -CLUB:
Covers those areas within the club, dojo etc., that are not covered by the MADEC licence insurance, perhaps involving accidental damage to property, non-martial artists, spectators, visitors, prospective members, for whom, whilst in your premises you are responsible. It does not cover
Students/rnembers practising martial arts without licences. Clubs must register with MADEC.
A Club is an organised group of people in membership of a MADEC Association which operates to a a formal Constitution or Rules and elects officers annually from its members.
It is not a class* offering tuition organised by individual instructor(s) acting independently (see below)
COACH/INSTRUCTOR
An Instructor is an individual recognised as being technically competent to run a class and permitted to do so by a MADEC Association.
A Coach is an individual who holds a current MADEC coaching qualification.
The MADEC policy, extended to include coaching/training activities allows those coach/instructors teaching for less than an average of six hours per week to obtain indemnity cover under the policy, including advice given, whether for a fee or not. It should be noted that this cover applies within the British Isles and the European Community.
An instructor/Coach holding special scheme indemnity insurance cover is automatically insured for risks for *classes they offer to members of the public where his/her *class does not run a formal club structure (as defined above).
The MADEC policy is further extended for Coaches / Instructors teaching for more than an average of six hours per week. This option should also be considered by instructors who, although teaching less than six hours, are also involved with giving one-off seminars / practical demonstrations in local authority / schools or other establishments with non-licensed and therefore unprotected people. With the exception of the United States and Canada this extension of cover is effective worldwide.
The provisions being:
1. They are registered as a coach / instructor with MADEC
2. That they, and all members within their group / class hold current MADEC licences
